Fantastic Plastic Best Film Cash Grab Penny Competition

You may have seen it already via the Penny website, via Facebook, or if you bought a Penny recently, the majority of them have had a flyer attached to them promoting their Best Film Cash Grab competion.

The gist is, submit the best Penny lifestyle clip and you could score yourself a first prize of $5,000 AUD, a second prize of 10 Penny Skateboards, a third prize of 3 Penny Skateboards, or a best trick prize of $1,000 AUD.  The best video is to be determined by the total views your video receives combined with votes from Penny experts like the head media designer of Penny Australia.

While there is a trick section, the aim is for it to be a lifestyle clip, not a trick clip between 1 minute and 1 minute 30 seconds long. It also has to be PG rated and must not involve the harming of any persons or animals. You also need to make sure you include the Penny logo as provided on the competition page.

If you've got a Penny and have read the competition rules, go for it, but be aware of the fine print in the terms and conditions. I've copied them in here as I think it's important to be aware of:

Important Information: Absolute Distributors Australia Pty Ltd (the Promoter) offers this video competition for the enjoyment of their Penny fans and will not be held responsible whatsoever for any injuries, death or liability incurred by applicants in making any applicant videos. The Promoter warns that applicants should not skate or perform any tricks beyond their ability and should take extreme caution to prevent injury or death. High risk and/or dangerous tricks or acts will not be regarded by the judges and is not fitting of the lifestyle genre of the competition. The Promoter reserves the right to refuse entry of clips that are not in accordance with the terms of the competition. To be eligible to enter the draw, all entrants must complete a valid entry form. By completing the entry form all applicants will provide confirmation that the person submitting the application owns the intellectual property of the video clip and agrees to assign all intellectual property of the video clip to the Promoter. Upon lodgement all clips submitted will become the sole property of the Promoter and no longer the property of the applicant. The Promoter can use any shot or clip at their own discretion as sole owner after submission of the video. The Promoter as the sole owner of the intellectual property reserves the right to grant back certain use privileges of the clips to the original creator of each respective clip. All entrants will also be required to acknowledge that no person or animal was hurt in the making of the film and indemnify The Promoter of any legal action or liability brought against them. The Promoter reserves the right to change any of the Terms and Conditions without notice. Please see the full Terms and Conditions on the Entry Form for more information.

I've made bold the key point that I think it's important you should be aware of. By filling out an entry form and submitting your video, you are agreeing that you no longer own or have any rights to your video unless the promotor grants some of your rights back to you.

By all means, have fun and if you aren't worried about it, jump on board and get your entry in, but just remember, you are giving away all rights to your work.

Competition ends on the 31st of December. Entry form and full competition details is available here.
